The 4 Best Toddler Activities in Jerusalem
Vacationing in Jerusalem with toddlers can be a challenge. It might surprise you that the perfect toddler friendly activity is waiting for you just a few steps outside of the Old City. Hidden behind the trees across from Mamilla Mall, you will find Teddy Kollek Park. The park is the perfect place for a picnic right outside the Old City walls. There is an incredible water show, where sprinklers are set to “dance” at 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM and 5 PM in the summer. You and your children will love this refreshing and exciting activity! The area is open for children to play and run through. It is an amazing way to cool off and relax during a typically warm Jerusalem day.
Another special Jerusalem activity for the whole family is going to the the Biblical Zoo. With many shaded trees in the summer and just enough sun shining through in the winter it is year-round family-fun while visiting Jerusalem. Wearing sneakers is a good idea as the zoo has a lot to see, but if you get tired you can go on the very exciting train ride. During your visit make sure to find the Persian Fallow Deer that were native to the region during Biblical times. They became extinct in the late 19th century and were brought back to Israel in 1978. The Persian Fallow Deer are now part of a breeding program run by the Biblical Zoo. Once the deer are fully grown and healthy they are released back into the wild. Part of what makes the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo an integral stop for your Jerusalem family vacation is seeing animals unique to the region.
Jerusalem is filled with tourist museums for adults, but the Israel Museum has an entire children’s exhibit geared towards kids of all ages. The exhibits change every few months, so make sure to check if the current exhibit will be a good option for your family. Most children’s exhibits include some form of art project and a designated area for children to run around.
